Race 50 States

Through my lifetime, I plan to do 50 marathons in all 50 states.  I will add pushpins as I hit my accomplishments.

50states

So Far:

  • Suntrust Richmond, VA
  • Nashville Rock ‘n Roll, TN
  • Savannah Rock ‘n Roll, GA
  • Charleston Shrimp and Grits Marathon, SC
  • Lehigh Valley Health Network Via Marathon, PA
  • 118th Boston Marathon, MA

Planned Races: Some states have races I really want to run, so those states are already designated to those specific races!

  • New York City, New York
  • Marine Corps, Maryland
  • Big Sur, California
  • Disney World Dopey Challenge (3.1, 6.2, 13.1, 26.2 combo), Florida
  • Rehoboth Beach Marathon, De (hometown race!)

If you know any great races in any of the states I haven’t gotten to yet (which is most of them, lets be honest) let me know.  I would love to see the best course a state has to offer!

  2. How was Rock n’ Roll Nashville?? I totally want to do that one! I have a lot of the same races on my list, I’m hoping to do Marine Corp this year and as long as I can manage it I’ll be back for Goofy every year!

    • Nashville was great. The only thing was that I (in my geographic stupidity) didn’t realize Nashville would be so hilly (its in the mountains, I’m a dummy)! It was also stupidly hot by the end of the race, like 95 degrees hot. The race works in 3 loops basically and the first and last loop are great but the middle goes through car dealerships and open highways with no shade. Every race has its crappy parts though, its inevitable!

  3. Not interested in doing any runs abroad? I’m compiling a list of to-do runs. Some of them are quite amazing – like the great wall marathon – check it out!

    • I would love to run abroad…hopefully when I finish the 50 states I will be more financially able to run abroad!! There are so many runs in Europe that I would love to try, what better way to see a country than slow mo in a race!

      • I agree 100%. I’m currently in Utrecht, Netherlands – very nice running routes here – everywhere you go – there are canals. And outdoor art work – its fantastic!
Any idea – how many marathons is it healthy to fit in a year – for an amateur? 4? more?

      • I think it really depends how you run them. If you are running competitively and trying to get PRs I would say 2-3, if you are just casually running what I call “fun runs” I think 4-5 would be okay.
Last year I did 3 but I ran them all hard and by the third one I was worn out.
