Disclaimer: I have never been a competitive swimmer, I mean I swam in high school but was never really that great at it. These workouts are for cross training only and I by no means claim that they are going to improve swimming abilities. If that is your goal, I would find another blog. If you are just looking for different routines though, these may help you change it up and keep it interesting.
Pyramid Swim: I am a huge fan of pyramid anything (push ups, sprints, sit ups, you name it). So I decided to do a pyramid swim. It progressed like this…
Pyramid Swim |
Swim 100 m |
Rest 1 min |
Swim 200 m |
Rest 2 min |
Swim 300 m |
Rest 3 min |
Swim 400 m |
Rest 3 min |
Swim 500 m |
Rest 3 min |
Swim 400 m |
Rest 3 min |
Swim 300 m |
Rest 3 min |
Swim 200 m |
Rest 2 min |
Swim 100 m |
DONE! |
Total ~ 1.56 miles (50 laps)
Interval Swim: Another way to pass the laps a little faster. I really enjoyed this work out, even more than the pyramid swim.
Interval Swim |
300 m warm up |
50 m easy |
50 m medium |
50 m all out |
Repeat 7x |
300m cool down |
Total: 1 mile plus an extra 50 for good measure (33 laps)
I’m a competitive swimmer and runner so I love looking at swim workouts!! Great job on your swims!!
You saying that just reminds me I need to get my butt back in the pool. I haven’t swam in at least 6 months. I preferring running to swimming so it is usually the first to go when my running schedule gets out of hand!
Yes, it’s definitely hard to balance everything at once. I get it! 😉 Good luck with your running and swimming!! 🙂
