Thank You World Cup

I have literally had the most fun I’ve had in a long time following this world cup.  It was such a crazy, amazing experience to be in a bar, packed wall to wall with people all hoping, praying and cheering for the same outcome.  In an interview with Dan Patrick today, Landon Donovan stated, our country hasn’t come together like that since 9-11.  That an incredible thing to see, coming together without national tragedy.  And he was right, was he not?  How wonderful for a country to be bonded together over a sport that isn’t usually in the forefront of American society!

It is a huge bummer to be out, but we will of course be following the rest of the Cup.  I have a friend who’s father is from Germany and another friend from Columbia so I will be cheering behind those teams for now.

Congrats to Tim Howard and the entire American team (especially my future boyfriend Kyle Beckerman) for an amazing showing at the World Cup and more importantly for bringing an entire country together (an even more challenging feat)!

What your 20’s are for

I have spent a lot of time being bummed and frustrated and not much time seizing the “unemployed moment” so to speak.  Today I seized my moment and it was fantastic.

I went for a run in the morning and hung around the house most of the day until the Germany-Algeria soccer game where I rode my bike over to meet my friends to watch.  My one friend is a huge Germany fan so we were cheering our butts off and getting super stressed out.  Of course I was using the bathroom for the first goal in the 93rd minute.  SERIOUSLY!!

After the game, we all started riding bikes around Charleston.  It was a glorious night.  The heat was down, there was a nice breeze and almost no humidity.  That DOES NOT happen in Charleston on June 30th, let me tell you.

After riding around for quite a while we decided ice cream was probably necessary so we had ice cream for dinner.  Yep, five year old’s in 20 year old’s bodies!

Days/nights like this are why you live downtown in a city/have 20’s to live through.  It was so nice to let loose and have a good time pretty much being a kid all day when I have been so stressed out lately.  So glad I have 6 more years of 20’s left!! 🙂

After waiting allllllll dayyyyyyy looooong we finally got to catch the USA-Ghana game.  After watching Germany completely dominate Portugal, we definitely needed to start off with a bang and boy did we with a goal coming in the first minute!

I spent the morning making a patriotic dessert; pound cake with vanilla pudding and fresh fruit (all made from scratch).  Side note, I tried to make angel food cake and that is impossible without a beater.  Beating it with a fork really fast ain’t gonna cut it!

IMG_1547Case grilled up some food for the game and we had some friends over to watch, cheer and yell for 100 minutes!  It was such a great time and even better to end with a win.

Post game I finally headed for a run and had a great one.  Hard not to after that adrenaline rush.  Plus when you are running and in your head all that keeps playing over and over again is Ibelievethatwewillwin you can’t possibly run slow.

Great Monday, great game, great start for the USA!!

Goal Check

Today was a great lazy Sunday of coupon clipping, soccer watching and father’s day celebrating.  We went out to Casey’s dad’s house to get a bunch of food and have his dad cook for us (some kids we are, right).  He swears he loves to do the cooking so I just hope he isn’t pulling our legs.  We had a wonderful spanish rice jambalaya thing, pork chops with peppers and onions and cauliflower.  Delicious afternoon.

Scarlett pulled a fast one on us during the cooking process though.  I was standing in the kitchen talking to Casey’s dad and I look over and she is really chomping on something.  Casey’s dad has a tendency to slip her a little bit of people food every once in a while (hence why she loves him the most) so I thought that was what she had but then I got a good look at it and whatever it was was HUGE!!  I went over and she clamped her mouth down, hard.  When I finally got it open I pulled out an entire raw pork chop.  I couldn’t believe it; she never “steals” food.  It was like when little kids curse though, you don’t want to laugh because you want them to know it’s wrong but you can’t stop cracking up so you are in this weird in between stern angry face mixed with bursts of laughter.

"It was soo good, I don't even feel bad about it."

Also, with no segway at all, just want to say Happy Fathers Day to my two wonderful dad’s!  Only wish I could have spent time with you both today!
