Today I put in my last 20 miler before my race. It was much better than my last one (very similar to how my first one went). I toe the line 3 weeks from tomorrow and feel I am as ready as I can possibly be. I know I have left it all out there training wise and should expect my best race to date. I just hope that all the hard work, early mornings and sore muscles will pay off when the gun goes off.
Training up to now
After doing all of this (no, I have not missed a single run) I feel that I have very much earned this…
The glass was a christmas gift from my mom, and my favorite one I own!
my much earned, well deserved taper. Tapers are such a a tricky time. It is so hard to shift focus and momentum with the race coming up, but after so many cycles of training I know how necessary it is. My goal (after tomorrow having a great brunch) will be to shift my attention toward very vigilant nutrition and hydration for the next three weeks. (On a random side note, anyone that gets a naturebox, the sweet blueberry almonds are phenomenal. I have eaten mine all already and it makes me sad!)
I am ready for this race (knock on wood) and can’t wait to see what I am made of on September 8th!
The end of this month has and will bring a lot of visitors for Casey and I. This means lots of going out and having drinks at bars. I am a person that HATES to drink her calories and I sometimes get a glass of red wine if we go out to dinner, but usually I just get water.
So whats best when you are trying to be good?
I try to stick to beer or wine. A glass of most red wines average 96 calories for a 5 oz. glass, a light beer (emphasis on light, beers can really pack in calories too) averages 110 calories for a 12 oz bottle (rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov).
A margarita averages 168 calories in a 4 oz drink while a cosmo for example has 146 calories in a 2.75 oz drink. And I don’t know about you but I have never been served a drink that is 4 or 2.75 oz so some multiplying is unfortunately necessary (rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov).
Having 2 glasses of red wine would give me 192 calories of drinks while if I had two margaritas (estimating an 8 oz drink) I would drink 672 calories!!! Yikes.
Drinking is tricky, luckily we hardly ever do it (yes I am a lame 23 year old) but it is nice to make a little better choices when we do.
We made it to Atlanta!! Scar was a trooper as always on the trip, she is just the greatest puppy y’all!
Once we got here however, Casey got a splitting migraine so our hopes of going to the park with the pup were out. Instead, we trekked over the local grocery store, got him medicine and everything we needed to make a birthday dinner for my dear friend Allyson when she got home from work!! Casey took a nap while I whipped up Chicken Pot Pie (Pi day you know!) and Paula Dean’s Ooey Gooey Cake.
I already want to be home so I can eat better, but its only a few days, I will be able to recover quickly when I get home!
Now we are getting our things together to head over to my other friends house, drop off the pupster and head into down town to go to….THE AQUARIUM!! We are so excited. Pictures to come!!
There is no greater feeling in the world than walking out of an exam thinking you nailed it, and today my dear friends was how I felt leaving my very first neuro test. I had been seriously studying for this one for about 3 weeks and kinda let the other two fall to the way side.
The test was at 8:15 and I was done at about 9:30-ish and I was on such a high I went straight for a run. It barely mattered to me that the harbor looked like this…
…and that it was super windy and started raining on me in my last half mile. I really could barely care less, I was smiling ear the ear the whole time.
Then I went with a friend to see Silver Linings Playbook (which was so good by the way and not just because I am an Eagles and Jennifer Lawrence fan). It was a very different romantic comedy/drama than anything I have ever seen before. I also got ‘creative’ for my movie snack. I didn’t want to derail after my awesome run so I packed up some fruit and two dark chocolate hershey’s kisses to take with me.
Cheater Movie Theater Snack
The fruit was all on sale this week so I had loaded up and it made a great snack that I could feel good about!
After the movie, we strolled the mall for a bit and I found these beauties SUPER on sale.
They are mid calf and more casual than anything I have, and fit me like a glove, I knew I had to have them when I tried them on, then saw they were marked down from $90 to $18!! Talk about my lucky day!!!!
So now I sit with a glass of wine (a favor from the wedding last weekend), reveling in the fact that I don’t have another test for a month and I am not going to do an ounce of work tonight, tomorrow I will have to get back to the grind but until then, this is me.
Happy Friday Everyone!
Happy new year all! We had a fairly low key celebration last night torching christmas trees for a bon fire.
Since I had quite a few of those Mason Jars of wine (and usually do every year), I always start working toward my goals on January 2nd because working out wasn’t much of an option for me today if you catch my drift.
Hope everyone had a great time ringing in the new year. Get your sneakers ready for tomorrow!
It is officially the playoffs for fantasy football and I am in there!! I am posted in my spot on the couch looking at four tvs with four different games about to be on them thanks to my crazy (but I love it) boyfriend. If you couldn’t already tell, we LOVE football!
Last night we went to a friends house to have dinner and a gingerbread making contest. We had some wine (see pinterest in action below) and chatted for a while before getting down to business.
Frozen berries for ice cubes!
We thought it was going to be mainly a girl driven affair, but once we got started the guys really took over the construction process. Casey, who builds for a living, was throwing words like “caulk” and “fascia” into our home building process which was quite over my head!
Clay and Lindsey’s!
Casey and Mine…we went for whimsy!
Big Co and JK’s masterpiece!
Our Christmas Village
We had such a good time, I highly recommend doing this with your peeps. Hope everyone has a great Sunday and I wish you all great fantasy luck!
