Meeting Fitness Goals (before the Thanksgiving Shenanegans)

I don’t know about where you live, but it was pretty much as gross as it gets here today.  At three this afternoon, it was so dark outside the office it felt like the middle of the night.  I swear to you, this is no exaggeration.  With that being said, the motivation to go to the gym and bust my butt was pretty low.  However I knew that today was the day I was going to hit my yearly mile goal if I could just make it to the through the front doors.

Once I dragged myself in I had a really great run, even on the treadmill, and even without the tvs working.  I was so shocked.  After my run I got in a 30 minute Nike Training Club Workout.  It was an intermediate get toned work out called Curve Carver.  This was a pretty good all around workout that got me super sweaty and I really appreciate the time incorporated for warm up and cool down/stretch since I am bad at taking time to do this myself.


So with 34 days to go, I am thinking my goal for 2014 is going to have to be even more ambitious than this!!  Just getting better year by year!

Best Laid Plans

I did all sorts of moving runs around so I could go to run group last night and then it was DISGUSTING.  They still ran, but I just wasn’t feeling it, so I took my rest day and just did my nine miler by myself today, on the treadmill, AGAIN due to terrible weather.  My absolute hate for the treadmill has returned after three longish runs in the past week on there.

This was after my full day of baking!!  I do this one day a year while I am still in Charleston and then the truly HUGE, 12 hour fiasco of baking will happen next Thursday when I get home with my mom and grandma.

I watched Elf (my absolute favorite), The Holiday and some of Love Actually while I worked.

2012-12-13 16.50.442012-12-13 19.49.31No recipe needed for these, just get the pretzel rods, chocolate and vanilla Candi Quik and your decorative ingredients and get creative.  They take a while, but are pretty fun and really pretty (and delicious when you are done).

So I would say that is a pretty successful day.  I only had half a cookie (one of the spiced ones, I had to see if my new creation was actually good).  I couldn’t believe myself, just being around all the goodies made me feel full, I even forgot to eat lunch which I promptly realized when I was about half way through my run.

So that is pretty much me right now!  I am done my finals, just completed my take home final to be turned in tomorrow and am officially on my first break since May!!  I’m going to read books, knit, bake (since I haven’t done that in what seems like forever now), clean my house and oh yeah…RUN!

I played major musical work outs this week so here is the new Tuesday-Thursday.

Today (Tuesday): 10 miles with 8 at MP (8:12); originally scheduled for thursday

Tomorrow: 9 miles easy (5 with lululemon group) originally schedule for today

Thursday: swim (originally wednesday)

I wanted to make sure I got my run at pace in and the group run is very variable in pace so I wanted to have my easy run fall on that day.  I am so excited to run with them again.  I haven’t be able to go since before Thanksgiving!!

I went and ran on the treadmill again today so I could closely monitor my pace but I should have recognized last week as the fluke that it was.  It wasn’t a bad run, but I most certainly didn’t enjoy it like I did last week.  I just need to wake up and face the music…I’m am outside runner, thats all the is to it!  Wind, rain, snow (as much as they suck), they will always be superior to the treadmill for me!

P.S. woke up pretty sore from that PBfingers circuit I did yesterday…that thing is no joke and I didn’t even do it all the way!

Hitting the Treadmill

I am pretty much the last person that runs on the treadmill on a whim, and especially not when I have 10 miles ahead of me.  The being said, I have no idea what got in to me today.  I left my class fully intending on hitting the road.  I popped a protein ball to stave off hunger and then, all of a sudden I was on my bike headed for the gym.

Most days when I am forced onto the treadmill due to weather I convince myself it isn’t as bad as I remembered, but that only lasts for about 2 miles tops.

Today however, I had a great treadmill run.  My run was supposed to be 10 miles with 7 at marathon pace (hopefully 8:12).  I am not that great at controlling my pace while I’m running so this actually proved to be a really good thing to do today so my legs could feel the pace consistently.

I watched Rachel Ray make Shepherds Pie and Genieve from HGTV decorate the white house for Christmas.  Once that was over I watched Carrie Bradshaw end her engagement to Aiden and just like that I was done.  82 minutes and 10 miles later I had conquered the treadmill!!

I headed straight home to see my girl Scarlett and we went for a walk accidentally ending up in a dog park.  She played really well with a Lab that was there when we got there but then a very very very large Great Dane/Dalmation mix showed up and she got more timid.  By the time about 10 more dogs ended up in the park, she was practically climbing up my legs for me to hold her.  I was so proud of her though, she did so great at first!

Tomorrow is an unusual day of no running since Saturday is the first 20 miler of this training round so it will be a yogi only day!!  Almost the weekend everyone!!
