You Should Probably Grab Some Cheese

Because I have a bit of w(h)ine.

I DON’T WANT TO BE COLD ANY MORE!! It is supposed to get down in the 20’s tonight. If you had told me I would be wearing under armor to run on March 25th in HOTlanta I would have told you to put the fire out of your pants. It was 30 something and windy as all get out for my run tonight and I am just over it. However, it could be worse, I could be home. My mom sent me this picture of our back yard today and I wanted to cry for her.

On a happier note, a girl had been training in our office before starting her full time work on another floor and dropped off the beautiful, delicious, guilt free snack this morning!

It is so nice when people bring healthy snacks that I don’t have to feel guilty for eating 5 of haha!

Swap It Out Sunday

Potato chips are one of the more popular snacks out, especially once barbecues start full force with the beautiful weather coming in.  However, chips are one of the more processed, fattening things we can put in our bodies.  I have even gotten to the point that I don’t even like them that much.  They just taste so fake.  I have appreciated some of the baked alternatives and tortilla chips aren’t bad, but the potato chip itself I tend to avoid.

As an alternative to a chip bowl, a fruit bowl can go right along with a barbecue as well.  And your bathing suit will thank you!

One serving of chips can run you about 150 calories and 10 g of fat (and that is for 15 chips, I don’t know many people just eating 15 chips).  In one cup of pineapple there is 78 calories and 0.2 g of fat.  Plus, with pineapple you get nearly 100% of your vitamin C and manganese and plenty of other good nutrients.

So next time you go to a barbecue and you have to bring something, think about fruit instead.  I know fruit trays at the store can get expensive, but if you plan ahead and make your own you can get your own fruit (whatever is on sale at the store or at your local farmers market) and slice it up.  It is a lot cheaper that way and you know its is super fresh!!

Maple Apple Cinnamon Loaf

It’s been a while but here’s a new baked treat to try.  This one isn’t too bad for you either (added bonus)!!

Ingredients

1 cup old fashioned oats

3/4 cup skim milk

3/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

1 egg

1/4 cup sugar free syrup

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine oats with all wet ingredients.

Add in all dry ingredients.

Mix well so batter is even.

Distribute into loaf pan that has been non-stick sprayed (or two baby pans).

Bake 25-30 minutes or until knife can be inserted in center and come out clean.
