Eating My Way Home

Nearly every time I am home, the trip revolves around food.  After having Casey’s friends in town last week and being home this week, I am going to need a major diet overhaul to start right along with my new job.

Yesterday we started the day with Surf Bagel where I had a Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese on a Whole Wheat Everything bagel.  It is an absolute staple of food from home and NEVER disappoints!

IMG_1677After putting myself in a sufficient food coma, my mom and I went around to all the local shops that I love and don’t have in Charleston.  I ended up with two new dresses that I am in love with.  I almost pulled the trigger on a new bathing suit as well, it was so gorgeous but $128 for a suit is more that I can stomach.

Once we were sufficiently worn out with that we came home in time for me to take my little brother to his Crossfit where I stayed and went for a run.  I had 4×800’s on the agenda and they were TOUGH.  It was hot, humid and there was no breeze but I muddled through.  By the end I was totally spent and downed two full water bottles.  I am sure I was dehydrated before even setting out of the run.  Being home has gotten me completely out of any routine to keep up with water intake.

This morning I got my run in early, an easy three miler before going to lunch with my grandparents at Agave.  This place has the best Mexican food I have ever had.  I got a Farmer’s Market Quesadilla and it was amazing.  It was so fresh and delicious.

IMG_1685Post lunch, I was off to finally get my hair cut.  I absolutely love getting my hair cut (mostly the head massage with the cucumbers on my eyes).  I needed it so desperately, it had been since December!  I have been going to the same girl for 15 years but I guess it is probably time to give up and find someone in Charleston.  My stylist has just gone out on her own and opened a new salon called Lady and Mane and it was so beautifully finished with such perfect touches.

Luckily I had planned to go to dinner with my friend Megan tonight so I actually got to show off my lovely styled hair before running and having to wash it, ruining her handiwork.  We went to Stingray and had a feel rolls of sushi and had a chance to catch up on life and what not.  It crazy how much can change so fast and how much stays the same really.  Every time I come home I am reminded of that.

I have one more day left here before heading home (to Charleston) and we have a jam packed day ahead of us tomorrow.  Off to bed for me!

Boston: Day One

We don’t have wi-fi in our room (unless we want to pay $15 for it) so I am hanging out in the hotel lobby to give a quick update.
Yesterday we made it to Boston around 11:30, took a shuttle to our hotel to drop our stuff of and headed right out to the Red Sox game. We are so lucky to have the T (Boston Transit) right near our hotel so we walked over and a really fantastic man helped us figure out what passes to buy, told us where to go eat, where to not go, things we should do, etc. And he had a thick Boston accent which was fun.

The game was awesome but I totally sabotaged any good eating eating before a race rules. Oh well, we are experiencing Boston and it was completely worth it. I think I had the best hot dog of my life there (and I don’t even like hot dogs).

After the game we wandered around trying to find the T for a while before finally getting on and heading to the North Side for some dinner. It was gorgeous up there and we ate in this cute little Italian restaurant (which is all that is up there) and then bought 8x more desserts at this bakery than we could ever dream of eating before heading back to the hotel room to make our stomachs hurt. The desserts were amazing but they were so decadent we could only have a few bites of each thing before giving up. Left overs for tonight and the trip home I guess!

So now we are off to find some breakfast and head to the expo then wander around and see what we can find to do today! I can’t believe at this time tomorrow I will be in Hopkington waiting to start!

Charleston in Philly Weekend

My two favorite girls from Charleston made the voyage north this past weekend to visit me and we had such an amazing time.  It went so fast, I got out of work at 5 Friday and they had to be at the airport at 8:30 Sunday morning!  We surely made the absolute most of our time though!

Our weekend in pictures…

Dinner at R2L. The restaurant was on the 37th floor so it had an amazing view and we got a window booth by some amazing stroke of luck. My dessert was probably the best I had ever had: Roasted pears with gingerbread french toast!

Our reservation wasn’t until 9 so after dinner we were pretty wiped out and came back to my house to hang out and go to sleep.  We must have been really tired because we didn’t wake up Saturday until 10:30!!  After getting a later than expected start, we headed to Honey’s Sit N’ Eat that is on my corner for brunch and it was not a mistake!

After breakfast we went to Reading Terminal market and I got some veggies despite the pictures of so many sweets. It was so overwhelming. We all ended up getting donuts, they were only 90 cents and they were made fresh right in front of our eyes. Maybe the best 90 cents I have ever spent

We finally pulled ourself away from the food, sugar highs and all and started our walk to Old City to see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and do some shopping.

After wandering quite literally all over the city we had worked up an appetite so we went to get some cheesesteaks at Jim's on 4th and South. They were amazing and the girls have already been texting me that they want cheese steaks in Charleston.

We took our cheese steaks home to eat them with intentions to regroup and plan out our night.  We were so tired from our jam packed day that we went to the corner store and got some healthy snacks and watched Practical Magic and just hung out.  We had such an amazing weekend and it meant the world to me that they came but it was horrible how fast the time went.

Luckily I can look forward to Casey coming on Thursday!  I can’t believe it is finally here, its been 6 whole weeks since I have seen him.  Thursday is going to be the longest day of my life, his flight doesn’t get in until 10 pm…talk about torture!!

Hope you had a good Monday.

Finally Remembered What I Ate Wednesday!

For the past two weeks I have really been blowing this post.  Usually I remember at breakfast but lunch is so crazy busy I usually forget about it until I am driving home when it is too late.  Whoops!

Breakfast: Pumpkin Spice Bagel with Cream Cheese; Coffee with Pumpkin Cream Cheese (yep, still super pumpkiny over here)

When I got to work we did have a patient in the first spot so I enjoyed my coffee with a little studying…

Lunch: Chili with Chicken and Beans (Harris Teeter) and a Fig Bar

After getting home from work an hour early (yay, that never happens) I was able to get a run in before going to CARES.  I took Scarlett with me for her longest run ever.  We did five miles!!  Usually I take her on the same three mile loop so when we took a different turn she was not pleased and then every corner she tried to make a turn.  Then when we kept going straight I swear she kept looking at me like ,”Mom, what are you thinking, I know the way home and you are messing it up!”  Gotta love my pupster with the most personality in the world.  I thought she would be super tired at the end but she finished just as strong as usual.  I am finally starting to feel like she can come with me on most runs as long as pace isn’t an issue.  Running with her is pretty much a glorified fartlek run (6 minute miles, 10 minute miles, 8 minute miles, just all over the place)!

When I got home I checked my mail and my super sweet grandma had sent me a birthday card (woo early birthday present)!  More importantly she had clipped a bunch of coupons for me and sent them, how amazing is she!

Before heading to the free clinic I inhaled a banana (which I forgot to picture, whoops) to help me make it to dinner time!

Dinner: Chicken, Rice, Beans, Rotel, Onion and Bell Peppers (amazing); nothing makes me happier than when Casey has dinner done when I get home on Wednesdays (the for sure longest day of my week)

Hope you had some delicious eats as well!  Happy hump day everyone!

What I Ate Wednesday: Last Day of Class

Today was my last day of class EVER!  I have a test tomorrow and a two part practical Monday and Tuesday but my actual class time is over forever!  Crazy right?!

In honor of that last day of class my alarm wasn’t loud enough so I woke up to Casey’s alarm at 8:08 for my class at 8:30.  I have about a 12 minute bike ride that I give myself 20 minutes to do every day so I was already screwed.  I hit the keurig, scarfed down some cereal and literally ran out the door.

Post classes being over today we had a financial planning meeting.  That was great fun, let me tell you.  Nothing like having your last class ever and being greeted with the joyful news of what real life brings.  Why did I want to be done school again?  Just kidding.  I am still stoked to be done but it was a bit overwhelming.  Interest Rates, retirement, 401Ks, Roth IRA, mortgage, liability, risk management!!!  WHAT!!  Thank god I brought a very large apple to munch on so I didn’t lose my mind in all the words!

DSC_0020

After that I was ready to hit the road so I went for a run around town with Maribeth which helped settle my nerves and calm my mind.  I ended up eating lunch super late and wasn’t that hungry so I had a bowl of yogurt and granola and a banana.

DSC_0017

Due to my fairly small lunch, I was in a pretty snacky mood before I headed to the clinic for the night.  The pumpkin seeds were amazing and are now gone, sad girl!

I was lucky enough to come home to dinner already made for me.  I love when Casey does that on clinic nights.  I am always so worn out and it is the perfect end to these days.  He made pork chops, rice and some really amazing brussel sprouts.  I was very skeptical about the brussel sprouts, let me tell you but they were really good, not dying at all!

Sorry it was blurry, I didn't realize that until I already ate it!

I will probably have a night cap of chocolate almond milk to get really crazy.

The next few days are going to be a little crazy so bear with me if I am a bit absentee.  Tomorrow night we have a boat cruise fundraiser for the free clinic, Friday night is the rehearsal dinner and Saturday is the wedding.  I will try to recap as we go as best I can!
