Today was as productive of a day as you can hope for.  I got to work early and got to leave early, a great perk of my job.  Once all the patients are seen, you are out of there!  I headed to the farmers market and got a TON of great stuff and the lady even gave me my own basket to keep and use every week because I come to them every time.

I headed home, put my stuff away and hung out for a bit, letting the temperature drop before heading for a run.  The humidity was like night and day difference yesterday to today.  I barely made it through three miles yesterday afternoon and felt pathetic but today’s tempo run went fantastic.  It’s incredible what being able to breathe can do for you!

After getting back and showering quickly Casey and I jetted out to meet some friends for burger night at our favorite place, The Craftsman.  I insisted on riding bikes and Casey really wasn’t feeling it, he wanted to drive.  I got on my high horse about the benefits of living down town and not being lazy, on and on.  We weren’t a half mile from the house before Casey’s chain came off his bike.  Then right when we paid the check it started pouring rain.  Then on the way home, my chain came off my bike.  All the while Casey is looking at me with his, “na, na, na, na, boo, boo. I told you so” face.  Needless to say, next time I want to bike anywhere over a mile away I’m going to lose the battle.

Veggie burger at dinner. First thing I have had at the Craftsman I have been less than impressed with.

Otherwise it was a great dinner.  I had such a great time catching up with MB and Cassie while the boys talked football of course.  But now I am pooped and I have to run before work tomorrow because we are going to dinner for the PT that I am replacing’s going away dinner.  Bed time for this girl!!

The Mother of Invention

Case was up bright and early this morning for his flag football tournament so I took advantage of this and got up too.  I got the the farmers market before 11 am for once and got some really good produce.  I love that I can get:

  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • tomatoes
  • sweet potatoes
  • peppers
  • onions
  • brussel sprouts
  • squash
  • zucchini
  • peaches
  • carrots
  • jalepenos

for 27 dollars.  That will be more than enough for us to eat good, healthy locally grown food for the week.  You can’t beat it.  Plus everyone there is so friendly and helpful there.

On my way home I found a lost German Shepherd, which of course melted my heart so I stopped my bike got the dog and started knocking on doors.  At the third house, the woman knew the dog was her neighbors and she took the dog back to them.  Definitely the best thing I have done all day. 🙂

When I got home, I headed out for my run (though in hind sight I should have done this before going to the market).  It was hot and sticky but I made it, all nice and sweaty, darting back and forth on sidewalks for shade.

After hanging out the rest of the afternoon, I was in desperate need of some food.  I wasn’t super hungry but I am going to babysit at 5:30 leaving me at yet another awkward time meal wise.  I opened the fridge and decided to experiment.  And quite a wonderful experiment it turned out the be!

Summer Fresh Quesadilla

  • Olive Oil
  • 1/4 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • whole wheat tortilla
  • Feta Cheese (to preference)
  • Drizzle of honey
  • Vanilla Greek Yogurt (or any flavor you like)

1.  Heat olive oil in pan and add torilla shell.

2.  In pan, add sliced strawberries, blueberries and feta to one half of tortilla.  Drizzle honey over this side.

3.  Spread greek yogurt on opposite half of tortilla.

5.  Slice and Serve!!

Such a great light meal or bigger post work out snack!

Solid Saturday

Today started with my last LSD run of 8 miles at 7:30 this morning.  It was so unbelievably foggy but cool because the sun was kept out.  It really didn’t heat up until about an hour after I was done which was perfect.  It went really well but I am starting to get very anxious about this race.

When I got home I had time to take a quick shower and make my new favorite breakfast: Reese’s Oatmeal!!

1 cup chocolate almond milk

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup oats

1 Tbsp Natural Peanut Butter

(You can proportionally reduce these if it is too much…I usually end up using 3/4 of a cup of milk, 3/4 of 1/2 of a cup of oats (because that isn’t confusing) and 3/4 of a tbsp of peanut butter because the full serving is just too much!)

1.  Bring chocolate milk and pinch of salt to slight boil.

2.  Add oats and stir.  Allow to become thick stirring occasionally.  About 15 minutes.

3.  Reduce heat and stir in peanut butter.

Seriously, so easy and so fantastic.  It tastes like you are eating something really bad but it isn’t!  Doesn’t get better than that.

After scarfing breakfast, I jumped on my bike and headed to Lululemon where I had my modeling debut!!  It really isn’t a big deal but I was super excited about it.  Every Wednesday they send new product notification emails and they asked me to come be their model for this one.  I wish I had some pictures from the shoot but there were just the two of us so no one really there to take pictures for me.  The only downside was that all the new stuff coming in is for winter and it was easily over 90 while we were doing it and we walked about a mile to get to where we were doing it so I was sweating bullets by the time we even got started.  It was a lot of fun though and I will be sure to share the pictures once it is released!!

Once I finished up there, I headed to the market to pick up a few things before heading home and finishing up my newest baking adventure.  Peanut Butter Pie with Chocolate Covered Pretzel Crust.  Yep, it was amazing!

My picture quality was terrible because I forgot to take it before we left the house but mine is the bottom and the top is the recipe picture. About as close as it gets!

We took that bad boy over to Casey’s parents to celebrate his mom’s birthday.  Thank goodness I could enjoy making it but could take it somewhere else to get it eaten!

Today was a pretty jam packed day but it was really fun!!  Tomorrow will be much more low key but hopefully I will be able to make it to the beach and have a relaxing afternoon.  Casey has three fantasy drafts tomorrow which means lots of time for me to do whatever I want! Woo Hoo!

Living in Luxury

Today started by dragging myself out of bed at 7:15 to go for my long run (only 12 miles this week).  The first hour was fine, the second was almost unbearable.  It was so incredibly hot.  By 8:30 it was 90 degrees and the air was so thick and humid.  Any time I was in the sun with no shade available I was certain I wasn’t going to make it.  I was able to finish it out but boy did I have to dig deep to make it happen this morning!

After showering, having some breakfast and enjoying a huge cup of coffee I headed back down town to hit the farmers market.  I got everything I needed (more fresh pasta, veggies and fruit) and then wandered around taking pictures.

Saw this in the sidewalk, love!

When I got home, I made a quick egg sandwich and a smoothie for the road and headed to the beach for the afternoon with Jenna and Lindsey.  It was the perfect beach day, there was a slight breeze to keep the temperature from being overwhelming.

We didn’t get off the beach until 5:30!  We didn’t get there until around 2 but I was shocked we stayed so late.  It was just such a nice, peaceful day.  When I finally made it home, Scarlett was playing with the puppy from next door and it just about melted my heart.

Pretty much in love!

Pretty much in love!

The rest of the night included reading my book and just hanging out.  Man do I love my break times!!  Tomorrow I will have to start studying for my comprehensive exam a little bit, just to do something productive.

Hopefully tomorrow’s run won’t be as painful (and sweaty) but we will see, hopes aren’t high!

You know you’re a nerd when…

I officially am on break now!!  Wooo hoo.  Camp ended today so I have 11 glorious days to not have to go to school!!  I do have some school related activities to do (CARES clinic, a peds project, study for comps) but since I have already passed my comp exam which we have to take again when after we go back (I think on the 26th) I am much less stressed about cramming hard for it.

Today, immediately after finishing camp I rode my bike over to the library to find a new book or two for break.  I got a little ambitious…

I had picked out three and then when I went to check out “And the Mountains Echoed” had come in that I put on hold like three months ago and have forgotten so out I walked with four books!!  Tomorrow I will hopefully be going to the beach with a few friends, after my long run and our weekly farmers market trip, and can do a lot of reading there!

The rest of the day I finished the book I had been reading and went for a very hot easy (pace wise) run.  I finished my run at the dog park and had Casey and Scarlett meet me there which was a great way to end and cool down!

Good luck on your long runs tomorrow/Sunday everyone!!

Worth the Early Wake Up Call

After staying out until almost 2 last night with some of Casey’s friends that are in town for the weekend, I set my alarm when we got home for 8 am to hit the road.  Not only is it getting to be the time of year that you almost have to get up early to run (or go super late at night) but we have a jam packed day ahead of us.

So as I always do, I dreamed 5 times that I had gotten up and done the run waking up feeling awesome, only to realize I hadn’t gotten my butt out of bed yet.  But I, to my own surprise, got right out of bed when my alarm went off, got dressed, had a pre-run meal of wheat toast with peanut butter and banana slices of top, downed a glass of water and hit the road.

It was a glorious morning run.  The first hour was so pleasant, there weren’t a lot of people out yet, it wasn’t too hot, there was a nice breeze.  There were running people EVERYWHERE.  And let me tell you, morning running people are happy.  They have a smile ear to ear, which made me have a smile ear to ear so just a lot of good running vibes floating around downtown this morning.  The second half got a bit hotter but was doable.  I did my whole run around the perimeter of the peninsula along the water and then just doubled back to get home; the views are just amazing.  (If you are ever in Charleston, bring your running shoes and run the battery, the water is beautiful on one side and the houses are stunning on the other, its a win win everywhere you look).

My only downfall was that I failed to run slow enough again.  I literally can’t run a 9:05 mile no matter how many times my head tells me legs to slow down, it almost hurts more to run any slower than I am.

Morning Run

Morning Run

So now I am showered, recovered and am sipping coffee getting ready for this marathon day of fun.  We are going to hit the market to get our produce for the week, then we are going to a friends house who brews craft beers and is going to have a booth at the beer festival (we are just going to his house to sample his stuff so we don’t have to pay the $50 ticket price!!), then out on our friend’s boat for the afternoon, a cruise out to folly beach, dock up have a drink and some food.

Gonna be a great day, pictures to come!!  Have a fantastic Saturday!

Finals Make For a Boring Blogger

The good news is that my exams on Thursday went VERY well.  I got the grade back for the practical already and am very confident about my wound care.

The bad news is there are still two left (one Monday and one Wednesday) so my future looks very similar to my recent past.

I can pretty much sum up all that you have missed in my two days of absence in one image…

Nothing cool, obviously.

We did manage to make it to the farmers market this morning and got one of everything I am pretty sure and I have been fitting runs in each day but at this point Starbucks should seriously consider offering me some type of investment package.  I have been drinking hot tea like it’s going out of style  (because its cheap and I don’t have to add milk or sugar to it).  My favorite so far has been the Passion Tea, closely followed by Awake.  I was never really a tea drinker until recently but I have found a love for it through my studying adventures this round of finals.  Hopefully I don’t begin to have negative association with it!

Hope you are having a much more fun weekend than I am!  Back to the books I go.

Another Super Productive Saturday

Having the farmer’s market back in town as been great for my productivity.  I get up and am more motivated to get moving so I can get good produce!

This week I got a ton more great stuff including another watermelon (I ate the last one in like 4 days).  I also tried this great bar that I got a sample of as we walked by.  I meant to go back and get some but I completely forgot (there is always next week).  They are made of only dried fruit and nuts.  I couldn’t believe how great they tasted with no refined anything in them.

After getting dragged home from the market by Scarlett, I went for an 8 mile run over the Cooper River Bridge to Shem Creek and back.

For the rest of the afternoon, I did some cleaning around the house and did a ton of studying for my upcoming finals (two Thursday, one next Monday and one Wednesday ending in the grand finale of the CSCS exam the following Monday).  My brain hurts just thinking about it, one day at a time!

I made a huge stir fry with a lot of the vegetables we got at the market this morning and it was fantastic.  While that was cooking up I made my Whole Wheat Banana Bread because I had some bananas that were on their last leg.

After all of that I still wasn’t done, I was quite domestic today.  I finished my night with my favorite sweet (but not too bad for you) treat.

Farmer’s Market is Back!

So today was jam packed and almost all of it was enjoyable (even the time spent studying if you can believe it)!

I started off getting some work done early before going to the farmers market with my friend Jenna.  We even took Scarlett (which may have been more trouble than it was worth –> so many distractions, but it was good to get her out and about again)!  We also went to the Charleston Artist’s Markets.  There are some really incredibly talented people in this area I have to say.

Lots of goodies at the market!

Lots of goodies at the market!  Top right was almost Scarlett’s new sister; Right Middle: head board made from scrap wood and tin, so beautiful; Left Middle: the Best Marshmallow of my life @Haypenny

I was able to get so many fruits and veggies for pretty cheap.  I usually am under $20 but went a little over board today.  I had three full grocery bags of fresh fruits and veggies including a watermelon so you really can’t beat it!

I also have to put a plug in for Haypenny Confections!!  I had the Honey Vanilla Chai marshmallow today and it was to die for!  They even had cute little roasters that you could just have a single marshmallow.  They had the most incredible flavors and some of the flavors you could buy in a pre-made home-made smore’s kit with various flavors like vanilla, toasted coconut (Jenna had this and said it was awesome) and so many others.  It would be the sweetest little gift to give someone for any occasion really.  I mean who wouldn’t like a flavored smores kit, lets be real.  And after that ramble about a marshmallow it has to be apparent to you how much I loved it!

Pet Helpers was also at the Artist’s Market and we made the mistake of going up to see the adorable 8 week old lab puppies.  Scarlett and one of them played for a while and had such a good time (made Scarlett look huge though, my baby is growing up).  I wish she was just a little older and I think we would have gotten one of them.  But if anyone is interested in a puppy, contact Pet Helpers because there were still three left when we left there today.

With my best girl!

With my best girl!

After finally tearing myself away from the market (and the puppies) I headed out to Starbucks to study for a few hours and got a lot accomplished.  I went for the most amazing run, the weather is so perfect for running I can’t believe it.  I changed out all of my winter clothes to store for the summer and made a fairly large pile to finally donate after carrying around clothes that are 6 sizes too big for me for two years (yay for that though)!

So all in all, I’d say it was a pretty productive Saturday.  Thank goodness the market is back, I feel like I have been waiting forever!

Do you shop at your local farmers market?  How long does yours go during the year?

Have to brag: our will run until December, one of the perks of living in the south 🙂
