Scarlett is Two!!

My sweet, sweet puppy girl turned two this week.  I can’t believe it, time is just flying by!  Her birthday was actually Tuesday but I am a strong believer in the birthday week!

Really had to convince her she was allowed to have it

I can’t imagine my life without this sweet girl in it.  Every day I get to spend with her is a gift.  I love all the time that I get to…

Help her with her fantasy team

Here are to many, many more years of Scar!!  Happy birthday to my one and only furry love!

Take Advantage of Your Life

This weekend was a rare occasion where Casey went out of town without me.  He went to a concert in Atlanta and I wasn’t sure what my work situation was going to be when we were deciding if I could go or not.  So that meant after dropping him off Saturday, I was on my own.

I went straight home and hit the road for my 7 mile run which was amazing.  I truly enjoyed all of it, at 1:30 in the afternoon on August 2nd!  The weather was “crappy” all weekend by everyone elses’ standards but it was idyllic for a runner!  It rained off and on the whole time and it felt incredible.

When I got home, I jumped in the shower, then on my bike to head downtown and do some tax free shopping!!

IMG_1775I went shopping for two things: Casey’s birthday and navy tee shirts for me to wear to work.  Casey made out like a bandit.  Quicksilver was doing 2 shirts, shorts, flip flops and sandals for $99.  Considering the shorts I was going to get him were $65 alone I just went for the whole shebang.  I can’t even believe that was a real thing, I save $154 on what I got him.  He made out way better than I did, no navy tees for me.  What a simple thing to not be able to find.

When I got home, I spent some time sitting on the porch reading my book and letting the dogs run outside in between the rain.  I watched our friends dog yesterday and today it is always good when Scar and Cho get some time outside.

IMG_1779Eventually I came in to make a dinner that Casey wouldn’t appreciate: a HUGE plate of shrimp with Rice, Quinoa, Red Lentils and Barley and Asparagus.  It was delicious and that rice mix was amazing.

IMG_1778Today held a lot of the same, except my 14 miler and some yoga.  I was so worried about this run after last week being such a disaster.  I was getting really nervous if I was just super out of shape and if my fall marathon may not happen this year.  Before I headed out I spent 20 minutes doing some deep stretch yoga.  Thank goodness I can say that my concerns were quelled after a flawless 14 miler.  I went over the bridge into old mount pleasant, out to pitt street pier (where there were sooooo many people out) and did a loop on back home.  It went so well.  Again it was cloudy and misty and about 80 degrees, night and day compared to last week.

Once I got home and showered I ran out to do some errands and came home to do the final piece of my Casey-is-out-of-town-weekend: cleaning, baking and laundry.  I took some of the cookies I made to meet the new neighbors (August 1st is the move in date around Charleston so we literally have 25 new neighbors).

These turned out way better than I anticipated so I will have to get the recipe added!

So I would say I definitely took advantage of my life and my weekend alone.  It was wonderful, and it still isn’t over.  The rest of the night I am trying to finish this book I am reading, it is amazing.  Review to come.

Hope you had a great weekend and great long run as well!

Goal Check

Today was a great lazy Sunday of coupon clipping, soccer watching and father’s day celebrating.  We went out to Casey’s dad’s house to get a bunch of food and have his dad cook for us (some kids we are, right).  He swears he loves to do the cooking so I just hope he isn’t pulling our legs.  We had a wonderful spanish rice jambalaya thing, pork chops with peppers and onions and cauliflower.  Delicious afternoon.

Scarlett pulled a fast one on us during the cooking process though.  I was standing in the kitchen talking to Casey’s dad and I look over and she is really chomping on something.  Casey’s dad has a tendency to slip her a little bit of people food every once in a while (hence why she loves him the most) so I thought that was what she had but then I got a good look at it and whatever it was was HUGE!!  I went over and she clamped her mouth down, hard.  When I finally got it open I pulled out an entire raw pork chop.  I couldn’t believe it; she never “steals” food.  It was like when little kids curse though, you don’t want to laugh because you want them to know it’s wrong but you can’t stop cracking up so you are in this weird in between stern angry face mixed with bursts of laughter.

"It was soo good, I don't even feel bad about it."

“It was soo good, I don’t even feel bad about it.”

Also, with no segway at all, just want to say Happy Fathers Day to my two wonderful dad’s!  Only wish I could have spent time with you both today!

fathersWeekly Work Out Summary:

I am half way through my six week goals and the only area that is lagging behind is my stretching goal.  No surprise there.  Just means I will have to make up some extra time in the next three weeks.  No harm, no foul.

Miles: 30.1; (total: 90.42)

Push Ups: 320; (total: 900)

Stretching: 30 minutes; (81 minutes)

Inspiration for 500 Alex…

I have had such a lack of inspiration lately it is driving me bonkers.  My runs have been out of obligation, not bad but certainly not awesome.  I have fallen into the lull of the 8-5er big time.  Luckily as a student I have one more week of this and then a break, unlike what will happen in 5 months in the big world.

Yesterday (in shorts and a sports bra only I might add) I had my first run in a while that reminded me of my love for it.  I headed out on an 1:30 minute run (which was my first “for time” run which I loved) with a 3:1 pattern.  I have been doing the first three weeks of the Boston Bound training plan from Hal Higdon (minus the speed work) to keep my miles up and make a smooth transition into training at the end of January.  I loved the 3:1, taking the first 3/4 at an easy pace and the end at my goal marathon pace.  It feels good to work hard at the end.  I needed this run so badly I can’t even put it into words.

To cap off that great day, Casey and I went to pick out our very first Christmas tree.

Tonight I started putting lights on the tree but very quickly ran out which just means another quick trip to the store tomorrow to get a few more strands.  Off to a good start though!

Birthday Dinner

Missing the group run was totally worth the dinner we had tonight.  Lindsey and I each had a glass of Riesling, both of us fans of sweet wine.  Casey ordered the special order of oysters for $8.95 and we hit the jackpot.  The waitress said we would probably get about a dozen but this is what showed up…

Clay, Casey and I probably each had a dozen, it was awesome.  Then I tried to make good choices had a salad with lobster, crab, shrimp, clams and white beans and a cup of clam soup.  I think I could eat endless amounts of seafood honestly.

We decided that we are going to go to the festival of lights in charleston sometime soon which I am so excited about.  I love Christmas so much and this is about as Christmasy as it gets.  We went with them last year and it was a blast.  You drive through three miles of christmas lights displays with music and everything.  Then at the end there is a store and marshmallow roasting and other goodies.  The best part is, we can take the dogs!

We also decided we are going to rent a house in Edisto (about 30 minutes away) in May hopefully (while I am on break from school) and go for a long weekend to hang out at the beach, have bon fires and just have a relaxing time.  I already can’t wait and it is months away, it just sounds like such a nice retreat!

The whole dinner was just so fun.  There is nothing better than a good night with great friends!

Happy Birthday Lindsey!

Puppy Day!

Today I headed back to the grind, full day of classes and working at the free clinic we run for school at night and somewhere squeezing a run in.  Or so I thought…

Talk about a major fake out…

During my first class today, we got an e-mail that our afternoon lab was cancelled so from 12:30-6:00 I was now free giving me plenty of time to go get our girl.  Making it through the rest of my classes and heading out for a run was the hardest thing ever, only made more difficult by the fact that it started POURING rain when i was only 2 miles in to my 8 mile run.  Its like the universe doesn’t want me to run this race.  The plan was to finish but the rain only got harder and since I was already sick I took a turn heading home only making it 5 miles.  I did manage to get my 3 mile reps in each in <7:30 min/mile pace.  I am going to make the other three up tomorrow because I am bound and determined to have a good week this week.

I hurried through a shower and grabbed some food and climbed in the car to head to get her.  I had to stop by Petco and get the essentials (leash, collar, treats, food) and then I was down there within an hour.

She wasn’t the biggest fan of the car and cried for about 15 minutes but she finally fell asleep in my lap.  Heading to the clinic when I got back was so hard but I finished up in about two and a half hours and was able to head home and get her.

So now we are hanging out on the couch, she is passed out (quite a big day for her).  Wish she could head for my run with me tomorrow, but at the moment a block takes about 20 minutes, so we may have to give that some time…
